CONTEMPORARY ARTISTS EXPLORE PRINTMAKING – NATIONAL BURSARY AWARD

Double Elephant Print Studio values the traditional disciplines of printmaking and embraces the challenge of exploring printmaking’s evolving position within contemporary fine art practice. We embrace diversity in artistic expression and encourage artists to see the potential of the medium to move beyond established printmaking boundaries.

To this end Double Elephant is keen to engage with contemporary artists and we are particularly interested to encourage cross over between different practices. This is an opportunity for established artists to explore how printmaking can extend and develop their practice. We are looking for artists with a genuine curiosity for printmaking, but have not included it so far as part of their work. We are not looking for artists who already use printmaking.

This opportunity is for artists outside the Exeter region (a previous call-out was for artists located in the Exeter region). This in-kind award, worth £650, covers the cost of the weekend sessions at Double Elephant Print Workshop and amounts to 18 hours contact time. Also included in the award are accommodation costs and a contribution towards travel expenses.

Over two weekends, four selected artists will work at DEPW with two printmaker technicians. We welcome specific proposals for how you’d like to use the time. We will advise on what is possible with the facilities and resources available.

Dates: Weekends of 18th/19th May and 22nd/23rd June at Double Elephant Print Workshop, Exeter. The timings are 12-5pm, Saturdays and 10-2pm, Sundays.

Your application should consist of the following:
Artist Statement & CV (no longer than 2 sides of A4)
3 images of your work or a link to a website gallery

Material costs
Basic Material costs are included and will vary depending on the processes used and the paper chosen. Extra, specialist materials will be charged for. Material costs per artist from the last bursary award programme were £15-30.

Accommodation and Travel costs
Accommodation will be organised through Double Elephant at a city centre hotel, for the Saturday night of each weekend. Travel will be reimbursed for up to a total of £140 per artist or 100% of the costs, whichever is the lesser.
