“and if you can’t draw you can always be a modernist”

This brilliant film from the British Pathé archive made in 1955 shows members of the Hampstead Garden Suburbs Institute drawing, designing and then printing on to fabrics for the home. The film shows amazing examples of the colours, patterns and subject matter celebrated in 1950s fabric design alongside wonderful design and craft skills which make it look so easy!
